How to Choose Your LED Panel Size
When trying to choose a lighting solution from the many options available, you’ve probably stumbled upon LED Panels more than once. These are great at replacing power-hungry fluorescent options that not only increase your bills, but also produce a ton of heat and aren’t always aesthetically pleasing.
The concept of LED Panels might seem simple at first, but once you dive deeper into it, you’ll quickly discover that there’s much you need to know about them before making a choice. Here at LEDSAVE, we’re experts in all things LED-related, so if you want to learn more about LED Panels, please keep reading.
LED Panel Types and Recommended Sizes
On the outside, all LED Panels probably look the same, but besides their size, there are many differences in how they must be installed, which also has an impact on how they look and how accessible they are to maintain.
Suspended Panels
Suspended LED Panels are no different from the other panels on this list, but the way they’re installed matters significantly when it comes to the size you should choose.
As opposed to Surface-mounted and Recessed panels, Suspended LED Panels hang from the ceiling at an adjustable height between 30 and 300 cm, which should be taken into account, as larger panels typically have more area of coverage than smaller ones.
So, the higher you want to set yours, the bigger the panel you choose should be to light as much of your living spaces as possible. We have great Y-shaped and 4-point suspension wire kits that you can browse to find one that fits your preferences better.
Surface-Mounted Panels
Having covered Suspended Panels, it’s time to move on to this variant, which is quite different from the previous alternative, as it’s fixed to a wall or a ceiling. Surface-mounted panels are great for corridors, bathrooms, and virtually any other area that needs a clean look and tons of lighting.
Surface-mounted panel frames come in the following sizes: 1200mm x 600mm, 1200mm x 300mm, and 600mm x 600mm. These frames are ideal to pair with our EcoBrite LED Panel Lights, as the kit screws to your ceiling and the panel can be slid in afterward.
Our frames have enough space to accommodate our LED driver emergency pack, which is great for power outages.
The size of the LED Panel that you choose should be determined by the size of the space you want to light. For larger areas, you’ll want a more uniform square shape that covers the room evenly.
That is, unless you’re going for a specific look or are planning on installing more than one panel in proximity. In that case, the 1200mm x 600mm or the 1200mm x 300mm will do the trick.
Recessed Panels
Lastly, there’s Recessed Panels, which are great for when you want a clean, sleek look in your spaces. Unlike Surface-mounted or Suspended LED Panels, recessed alternatives go inside your ceiling or wall, so they don’t stick out and produce a flat, elegant look with edges that are hard to notice.
Recessed LED Panels are great for areas like kitchens, bars, hair salons, and any other space that needs inconspicuous lighting. These panels come in the same sizes as their Surface-mounted counterparts. However, you should consider that, since they will be embedded into your ceiling, some of their beam angle might be reduced.
Comparison to Fluorescent Lighting Solutions
Now that you know the different sizes and uses of LED Panels, let’s talk a little more about why they’re so great at lighting, and why they’re superior to fluorescent lighting and other alternatives.
Products like our EcoBrite 70-watt 1200mm x 600mm produce a light output equal to a 4×36-watt fluorescent modular light (6000lm), but only use less than half of the power. Not to mention that you can pair it with 3-hour emergency packs in case of a power outage, so you can know for sure that you’ll never be stumbling in the dark again.
On top of this, if you were to install a fluorescent lighting solution that could give you as much light as our LED Panels, the room would likely get very hot, very quickly, which isn’t a problem with LED lighting.
Which LED Panel Is Right For You?
At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference, the size of the spaces you’re looking to light, and whether you’re going for a specific style.
1200mm x 600mm LED Panels are great for situations where you want large-coverage and linear lighting, whereas 600mm x 600mm is better for when you’re dealing with modular ceilings and want a more uniform light beam.
In any case, you’ll be saving a ton of power thanks to our LED Panels’ efficient lighting, and a ton of effort, as they don’t need nearly as much maintenance as other lighting solutions.
