Expert’s Advice on Buying LED Panels

Although it might sound simple, choosing the right LED Panel for your home or business can sometimes be tricky. If you’re not careful, you could end up getting a light that’s either too bright or too dim for your spaces. Here are some things to keep in mind.

Brightness Rating

The first thing you want to consider before buying an LED Panel is how bright the product you’re purchasing is. Brightness is measured in Lumens, the higher the Lumen rating, the brighter the light. In most cases, you can find a light’s Lumen output stated in total. However, in some cases, you’ll also see a Lumen/watt rating.

In the latter case, all you have to do is a simple multiplication. If a 15W light is rated to have a Lumen output of 100 Lumens per watt, then the total Lumen output will be 1,500 Lumens. The larger the space you want to light, the more Lumens you’ll need.

Design

LED Panels often come in different shapes and sizes, and you must pick the right one for your specific needs. LED Bulkhead Lights, for example, are great for both indoor and outdoor use, but aren’t the most aesthetically pleasing.

LED Panel Lights, on the other hand, are much better suited for applications where visual harmony matters. There are even some LED Panel Lights known as “recessed mounted”, that seamlessly integrate into your spaces’ walls or ceiling to give a pleasing look. And if you’re going for a specific style, you can also get a suspended LED Panel.

Others alternatives, like Warehouse LED Lights, are ideal for large industrial spaces where you need a reliable light source that hangs at considerable heights. Each LED lighting solution’s design fulfils a different purpose, so it’s important that you take that into account before making a purchase.

Size

As stated earlier, the size of the LED light that you get should be greatly determined by the size of the space that you’re trying to light. If you buy an LED Panel light with a ton of Lumens for a small space, you’ll find that it’s very bright, to a point where it’s uncomfortable.

On the other hand, if your LED Panel light is not bright enough for a large space, you’ll notice the need for additional light sources. For smaller areas, like classrooms and offices, for example, a 600 x 600 LED Panel should be more than enough. And if your spaces are larger, then a 1200 x 600 will do the job perfectly.

Colour Temperature

While it’s not common knowledge, a light’s colour temperature changes the way other colours look within a determined space. Moreover, colour temperature can also help set a distinctive mood within a room or office, so making the right choice is important.

LED Panel Lights in different colour temperatures can change a space’s mood.

Normally, LED Panel lights come in three different colour temperatures:

  • 3000K (Warm White)
  • 4000K (Natural White)
  • 6000K (Daylight White)

You can also find them in lower Kelvin colour temperatures for a different atmosphere. The lower the temperature, the more inviting and cosy a space will be, so if you’re looking to decorate your home, a lower colour temperature will be best.

On the other hand, if you want to promote productivity in an office space, something closer to daylight will be the right choice.

Emergency Features

Electricity bills are not cheap, especially when you’re planning on keeping your LED lights running all the time on your business or home. It’s no secret that LED lights use much less power than fluorescent lighting alternatives. However, having a microwave sensor and emergency features can’t hurt.

LED Panel lights with a microwave sensor can detect movement, turning themselves off when no one is around to keep your electricity costs lower. As for emergency features, many LED Panel lights come equipped with a 3-hour backup emergency battery. This way, you can keep your spaces lit in the event of a blackout.

Naturally, the more features an LED Panel light has, the more expensive it will be. However, the price difference is often minimal compared to simpler alternatives. Not to mention, that the extra amount that you spend will get back in your pocket through electricity bill savings.

IP65 Rating

This one will be more important for those people who are looking for an LED Panel lighting solution for their warehouse or industrial areas. When an LED light has an IP65 rating, it means that it can withstand low-pressure water sprays (such as rain), as well as dust and other elements that are often present in warehouses.

Some LED Panel lights are rated to withstand warehouse applications.

This rating makes some of our LED Panels ideal for any type of work while giving you the confidence that they won’t be damaged by the elements.

Buying the Right LED Panels

At the end of the day, there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to LED Panel lighting solutions. One option will suit some people better than others depending on their specific needs and the space they want to light.

Remember to always pick your light’s colour temperature based on the ambience you want to set, and the Lumen rating based on the size of the space you’re trying to light. If you’re looking for a lighting solution for industrial applications, make sure that the light you buy has an IP65 rating.
