LED Lighting Solutions For A Workshop
Workshops are areas of high productivity, which means that keeping yours properly lit will not only ensure that you and your employees are working under safe conditions, but also that you’re making the most out of your time. Here are some of the most common LED lighting alternatives for a workshop.
LED Tube Lights
LED Tube Lights are a great option to light your warehouse, as they come in. 10, 12, 18, 25, 32 and 35-watt variants. Our LED Tube Lights, which are part of our Commercial LED Lighting line, have an output of 120 Lumens per watt. This means that, the higher the wattage you buy, the brighter the Tube Light will be.

For example, from a 10-watt Tube Light, you can expect to get 1,200 Lumens. And from a 35-watt alternative, you’ll get closer to 4,200 Lumens. Naturally, the larger your workshop, the higher the wattage you’ll want to get. This also works the other way around, so if your workshop is small, getting a Tube Light with high wattage might be overkill.
LED Downlights
LED Downlights are discrete and powerful, as they have a sleek design that fits well with most spaces. They come in 6, 8, 12, 15,18, 20, and 22-watt variants, which makes adjusting them to your needs very simple. At 80-100 Lumens per watt, LED Downlights aren’t as bright as Tube Lights, but they’re great for saving space.

Typically, LED Downlights come in a colour temperature of 4500-5000K, which is ideal for well-lit spaces that retain a neutral look. With a beam angle of 120 degrees, these lights are great for covering wide areas without the need to install several of them close together.
Low Bay LED Lights
Moving on to more potent lights that are not as common in commercial lighting, but rather popular in warehouse applications, there’s Low Bay LED Lights. These are typically used in warehouses with ceiling heights between 12-20 feet high.
Low Bay LED Lights are designed to maximize productivity and light a certain area in the best possible way, thus ensuring the safety of the workers in the warehouse. Low Bay LED Lights typically come in a range between 100-200 watts, with an average output of 150 Lumens per watt.

This means that a 200-watt Low Bay LED Light will provide your workshop with 30,000 Lumens, which is more than enough for most spaces, even if they’re on the larger side. The standard beam angle for such lights is 120 degrees, which ensures maximum coverage.
On top of this, Low Bay LED lights come with an IP65 rating, which means that they can withstand dust and low-pressure water sprays, making them ideal for many industrial and workshop applications.
High Bay LED Lights
Similar to Low Bay LED Lights, High Bay LED Lights are meant for industrial and workshop applications. However, the main difference these lights have is that they’re meant to be installed in ceilings that are between 20 and 45 feet high. Our products in this category come in a colour temperature of 5000K and have a beam angle of 90 x 120 degrees.
Typically, maintaining these kinds of lights can be challenging and dangerous given the height they’re installed at. Luckily, LED lighting solutions do not require a lot of maintenance, so you can expect them to have an estimated lifespan of over 50,000 hours without giving you too much trouble.
Like their Low Bay counterparts, High Bay LED Lights have an IP65 rating, so you can install them with confidence knowing that they can withstand the typical elements present in a warehouse or workshop.
LED Batten Lights
Lastly, there are LED Batten Lights, which are very similar in design to LED Tube Lights, with the main difference being that they come in much higher wattages and different sizes. LED Batten Lights come in lengths of 4, 5, and 6 feet, and in wattages of 17, 28, 30, 32, 55, 56, and 62 watts, making them quite versatile for all purposes and needs.
Most of these lights come in a colour temperature of 4500K, which is Natural White, and produce the following number of Lumens depending on their size:
- 1500mm (5ft) 28W (3360 lumens)
- 1500mm (5ft) 56W (6720 lumens)
- 1800mm (6ft) 32W (3840 lumens)
- 1800mm (6ft) 62W (7440 lumens)
Like other products, our LED Batten Lights have an estimated lifespan of over 50,000 hours, a beam angle of 120 degrees, and an IP20 rating. This means that the light is touch-proof and resistant to dust or objects larger than 12 mm. The IP20 rating makes them a bit less sturdy than products with an IP65 rating, but if your workshop doesn’t have extreme conditions, it shouldn’t be a problem.
Choosing the Right LED Lighting Option for Your Warehouse
At the end of the day, the best LED lighting solution for your workshop will depend greatly on the size of the area you want to light, the conditions and materials that you work with, and even the design that you’re trying to go for.
Remember, the more Lumens an LED light produces, the brighter it will be. And the wider the beam angle, the more area of coverage a single light will provide. You should go for an IP65 rating if you know your workshop is often in contact with dust and low-pressure water sprays. Otherwise, an IP20 rating will be more than enough.
