Our LED Bulkhead Design Styles

While function and power are important choices when buying LED Bulkheads, it’s also important to select the right style to fit your space.

Bulkhead lights are made for reliability and durability, often with appearance as an afterthought. At LEDSAVE we do our best to stock a range of different bulkhead lights, including our popular die-cast models.

In this article we’ll break down the various styles on offer, with advice on which to choose. Read on to find your ideal bulkhead style.

Bulkhead Types

For most applications, you’ll likely encounter four main types of LED Bulkheads:

Each type can come in different wattages, shapes, and diameters, while also featuring various elements that set them apart.

Pros and Cons of Each Bulkhead Type

While all LED Bulkheads are great in their own way, some fit better in certain places than others, and even their uses might vary. Here are some useful Pros and Cons that you need to know to make the right decision when shopping for your LED Bulkhead lights.

Round Polo Bulkheads

The first thing you need to know about Round Polo Bulkheads is that they typically come in either 8-watt and 15-watt versions. The higher wattage variants are ideal for locations where a lot of light is needed and there’s not much space to place additional light sources, whereas the lower watt alternative is better if you don’t need to add a lot of light to an area.

Both variants can typically be purchased equipped with a microwave sensor that can detect movement and deactivate the light when there’s no one in the room. Versions with 3-hour emergency batteries for power outages are also available, so you’ll never have to worry about stumbling in the dark waiting for candles.

Round Polo LED Bulkheads are perfect for corridors, bathrooms, homes and offices, as they have a sleek look that can complement almost any space. The one bad thing about them is that they can be a bit bulky and might not look very well in some space where discretion is needed.

Round Slimline Bulkheads

In many ways, Round Slimline LED Bulkhead lights are very similar to their non-Slimline counterparts in that they’re ideal for providing a sleek look to several indoor areas while offering amazing lighting performance.

However, they have the great advantage that they can fit almost anywhere, and given their slim design, they are discreet and almost invisible. Typically, Round Slimline LED Bulkheads only come in 18-watt versions, making them ideal for applications where a lot of light is needed.

Like regular Round Polo LED Bulkheads, Round Slimline Bulkheads can come equipped with motion sensors, and emergency backup batteries. The one drawback these could have in certain situations is that, given their slim design, they’re a little more fragile than their non-Slimline counterparts.

Die-Cast Bulkheads

In terms of functionality, Die-Cast LED Bulkheads are just as great as any other one of the LED Bulkhead types available. However, one of the things that make them stand out is their die-cast aluminium housing, which provides protection against the weather and other potentially damaging elements.

Die-Cast LED Bulkheads can also have their colour temperature adjusted to 3000K, 4000K, or 5000K, which makes them ideal for setting any tone you want either indoors or outdoors.

Like Round Polo LED Bulkheads, these lights have the disadvantage that they’re not very discrete, so if you’re looking for a minimalistic design (especially indoors), you might want to opt for other variants.

Emergency Light Bulkheads

While other LED Bulkhead types are great and also offer emergency models for power outages, none of them are as specifically designed for such situations as Emergency Light LED Bulkheads. These lighting solutions are shaped like a rectangle and come with 4 self-adhesive legend decals that you can configure to your needs.

In terms of an emergency, you can’t choose a better alternative, but in terms of aesthetics, they’re definitely not designed to fit seamlessly with many spaces, so you might want to buy another alternative if that’s what you’re going for.

IP65 Rating

Most of our LED Bulkheads have an IP65 rating, which is the international standard indicating that they’re dust tight, and watertight against low pressure water spray. This makes them ideal for outdoor use, so you’ll never have to worry about rain, pollen, and other elements damaging your product.
